When you’re young, you go through phases. You struggle to come to terms with who you truly are as a person. Many teens change their styles and even personalities with different trends and with what’s considered cool at the time.
It’s not a big deal I suppose, but it’s the effect that these trends have on things other than the teens themselves that interests me.

When being in a band is the cool thing, teenagers start bands. The younger local music scene grows and clubs become the hot spot to hang out because that’s where the live music is. It’s weird, but it’s true that at one time, starting a band was a trendy thing. In my opinion, music is art and the great thing about art is that it doesn’t have to be trendy to be great. In fact, in most cases, the less trendy the art is; the better.

But, just as the trends come, trends go. When playing in a band is no longer trendy, the members’ loose interest and the bands fall apart. When the bands fall apart, the local music scene does the same.
