Free Wobbly pops at the Warehouse with W.M.S.

by Brenda Naku Diaz on Dec.15, 2009, under Cambridge, Concerts, Info, Local Talent, Reviews, The Warehouse, Venues

There is a secret gem of a Venue in Cambridge, Ontario that I am about to divulge to YOU, are you ready? …The Warehouse. Yes, that’s right… it’s one of three buildings with the view of Dickson Arena, just over the first bridge downtown Galt, turn right at the first lights onto Blair Road. Exact address: 20 Hobson Street. Look on our upcoming gigs page for whose playing next!

My long standing friend Meg Thompson from Snap decided to come out and help me cover these bands; she is a great local photographer. She has wanted to see Bobnoxious for quite some time now, their reputation of helping out the arts community via raffles this summer and playing for free with the Cambridge Arts Festival and other good causes has them on the Meg radar. She is renown for her Environmental Products and Activism as well as her amazing Photography skills. She owns a business by the name of Raven’s Inspirations and you may catch her Pics around town in the little Café’s and Gift shops. For individual snap shots of YOU at the shows or packages for bands or promoters you can call her at 519 277-1064.

I had my mind blown last Saturday night…again. As I entered what felt like a lodge atmosphere, I was greeted by my tribes people all dressed in black, tattoos and crazy hair, net stockings everywhere, it felt like a home coming, old and new faces smiling anticipating the rock show. The place was packed by 9:00 so advice for future attendees show up early and buy all the beer you can carry cause it sells out fast with this rock thirsty crowd, two fisting, twisting it all night.

I had lots of fun flirting… I mean interviewing the bass player Jerry from L.T.C. after their show, I learned that this band is a rising musical force to be reckoned with, having only played together for a year and a half they definitely have a sound they can call their own.  The visual representation of their performance insights a plethora of eye catching carnage as each member delivers a show worth watching. Hard core antics and catchy melodies this band is not just a great set of abs mixed with entertainment, they have their sights set on world domination, and they gave me a demo track that I haven’t stopped playing for almost a week, as well as a gift to all who attended. I would recommend “ Habit “ from the C.D. which is reminiscent of classic Alice in Chains. Eric,Vocals-Jeff,Drums-Jay,Guitar, Go Ontario Talent! West Memphis Suicide dominated the show, our very own local Cambridge band!!. That night they had another band Left Turn City, from Toronto opening for THEM …way to go W.M.S.!  My favourite was when they handed out FREE beer “a special” for their festive tour, after working me up to a Rock’n sweaty mess.  I don’t drink beer per say, but that one hit the spot. I heard a lot of new songs and a birdie told me they were in the studio Tuesday, working on their new stuff. I will keep you posted on release dates. They have the cutest little hand symbol on a key chain, which you can purchase at Lucky Souls, which they tossed out to the crowd as well; I hope to fight my way closer to the stage next time, in hopes to get one. It means: a whole lot of love, with a little F@%*off!  If anyone is interested in tickets for their future shows see Barry or Paul at the Shoppe “Lucky Souls Tattoo Parlor” on King Street in Preston.

Right from the W.M.S. directly: “we’re looking at an early summer release,….12 or 13 songs,…..we are recording at a “secret location”…and we’re recording with Dave Houde from the band “Seven Years Lost” as engineer and co producer!
The new 7YL C.D. is the best indie recording I’ve heard. Until the new… WMS.”

There you have it Fans, a  C.D. in the near future from these guys!

The final band of the night and one worth waiting for Bobnoxious. They rule. Buy ALL  their C.d.’s they are running out fast…best Punk Rock Anthem band EVER.
