I took it upon myself to stop by Chainsaw last night to catch their leap into the live music forum with their newly formed house band, CFQ. The frontman of this new young group, Alex Macedon, did an outstanding job with the fantastic support of Donovan the Bass Guy, axeman Alex Tintinalli, and Chris Flannigan on skins.

In this venue which is quite familiar to the karaoke and pool scenes, I was wondering what the acoustics would be like to support the type of sound provided by live bands playing. I have to say I was incredibly surprised and pleased. The open nature of Chainsaw makes it very easy for the sound to carry right to the back and the texture and material of the inside walls seem to create just the right amount of noise reduction that the band comes off sounding clean with no echo or tinny sound.

Newly re-opened, Chainsaw has events planned all week, like Mary 5e tonight, Open Jam on Wednesday, Super Fantastic Karaoke Party on Thursday, The Stars Here will be playing on Friday with Karaoke singing holding the fort between sets. Saturday sees the Bad Bong Water Boys hitting the stage and Sunday there will be another Karaoke party. With this awesome mix of new and old entertainment choices they are sure to be successful. It is just a matter of time before the word gets out on this place and the new programming format. It is probably a good thing that the new owners have taken some of the pool tables out, because they are going to need the space for people.

While you are out looking to enjoy some of the best local entertainment opportunities to be found in Waterloo, plan to order something from the menu. Chainsaw has an awesome menu that includes some of my favourites like one of their huge hamburgers or perhaps an order of their fabulous chicken wings. Lots of flavours to choose from and you will certainly not be disappointed.

Make sure you work it into your plans to check out Chainsaw, sooner rather than later. The entertainment is going to keep going, but you don’t want to regret not finding out for yourself early what all the buzz is about.
