Rockin’ Out For Frankie
by Brenda Naku Diaz and Ian Mackenzie on Apr.15, 2009, under Concerts, Fundraisers, Info, Other
Frankie Foreman was an excellent musician taken from us far too early. In his honour and memory, money is raised each year for the purchase of musical instruments and lessons for those aspiring young musicians in need. What a great idea!
In order for the fourth annual Frankie’s Song Festival to continue its good work in the community Melanie Foreman (Frankie’s Sister) is hosting a series of mini-concerts around the city to raise money and promote the main event on Saturday June 13, 2009 at the Z Beside The Y, on Hespeler Road in Cambridge. Tickets are reasonably priced at only $10.00 each for the day long event. Featured Artists include The Reason, The Artist Life, Kingdoms, Chasing Amee, These Three Cities, Gracefield, Destroy The Prophet, Last One Out, and Dead City Citizens. On April 11th a mini-concert was held at 5 O’Clocks Bar and Grill in the DePeitros plaza on Glamis Rd. in Cambridge. The Vibe (http://localvibe.ca) was there to catch the action on video. The lighting was problematic, but we were able to give you some interviews and one performance. Here is the list of bands that performed at the event:
Childebeast – This two piece band plays acoustic alternative songs. They recently lost their drummer, but are continuing on undaunted. Our staff nearly blinded them onstage when we tried to improve the lighting, but they never lost a beat as their pupils shrunk to pinholes and their pale white Canadian flesh felt the warmth of our imitation sun for the first time in eight months.
Sandman Viper Command – These four cute guys have a lot of fun performing for an audience. They have character and will soon be a force to be reckoned with. They had a good camaraderie with the audience.
The Axxidentals – Two guys plus a rocker girl on lead guitar equals a lot of fun. They had more fans than most bands wish for and everyone was pumped with excitement and singing along. Each band member is quite unique in what they bring and even how they dress. What keeps these diverse talents together is love.
When an Ambulance Needs an Ambulance – As their name would imply, these guys have decided to leave the serious song writing to other bands, while they focus on spreading humour in music. They profess not to take life too seriously and enjoy lots of their favourite foods like Gyros and Pizza.
These Three Cities – We didn’t get the opportunity to interview this band but they win the award for having the most equipment, the sheer volume of diverse instruments was astounding. We did manage to catch one of their songs. They are extremely tight and really got the crowd to their feet dancing around the club.
We will be bringing you up to date info on each of these bands and more as we make our way around the Tri-Cities and beyond. You’ll get exclusive behind the scenes interviews with all you bands and musicians.
Will we see you at Frankie’s Song on June 13th? Mark it on your calendar right away!

i greatly admire the fortitude of Melanie Foreman, and the Foreman Family for forming this organization to help local youth. To overcome their grief in this way is admirable, to say the least, and the Local Vibe fully supports their endeavours
