Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Walshee’s

The Invasion of The Purple People

Riverside, aka “The Purple Pool Hall,” was more than just a building to a generation growing up in Galt in the 1970’s, when there was very little to do.

To some, it was a place to go when there was Nowhere to go.

To some, it was a symbol of teenage rebellion, “Don’t you dare go to that place.” Our parents would say. (Well, some of them)

To some it was a place to nurse their Hippy hangovers from the seventies.

To some, it was a just a place to go and play pool.

It didn’t matter who you were, you respected “Ma” Pseneck.

To honour Ma’s 80th Birthday Walshee’s is hosting a Riverside Reunion on February 28th, an all day get together culminating in a bash featuring Mike “Koutsy” Koutsavis, who hung with my own “Tribe” back in the day, and who’s music I have written about several times over the years. You can Check out his band, Shakey D, here. http://www.myspace.com/shakeydband

I am producing my next project around the reunion, a video story about how I went with my friends through the Rabbit hole to The Mad Hatters Tea Party. The story will be told through pictures from “back in the day” that have been submitted through our Facebook Group, and will feature as many people who grew up in Galt as possible. (I still haven’t grown up) If you have pics, there is still time.

It will also feature a section to remember some of those we have lost along the way. While working on this project I discovered how many friends I lost, and had forgotten about. I found their Facebook sites are sadly neglected, and I thought it would be a good time to put some of their memories together at the same time, it’s a lot easier to visit your ghosts if you have something to laugh about.

Do we have yours yet?

The story will be put on a limited Edition 30th Reunion Commemorative DVD, which will be available through The Vibe. We have already been contacted by Roger’s Daytime about doing an appearance. There will be a limited number printed, so order your advance copy now.

Part of the proceeds from DVD sales will go to Frankie Foreman Memorial Fund to help local youth participate in the Arts.

Here’s a sample, I’ll continue to post teasers as I “write” the Story.
