Rock and Roll at The Cambridge Castle

by on Jan.03, 2009, under Other

You’re practicing your riffs, you’ve got tunes ready and you’re playing somegigs–that sounds like the bands at Galt Collegiate Institute. As we head into the holiday season, we’re rocking the scene at the “Big Castle”. With a wide variety of solo artists to full blown bands, we are really going to “rock around the Christmas tree” this year.

But first, let me give you a briefing of my life: I am a science geek. But everyone isn’t limited to having one passion; I also adore music. And being a grade 12 student that is in a high school band, keeps me busy, allowing me to do something I will always enjoy. I get to make music with a group of great guys.Justin Gaudon

From the musicians that I have met at G.C.I., I take pride in saying that I see passion in our music. The genres of our students’ songs can range between a soft rock, acoustic cover to a heavy metal original. So at Galt Collegiate, one can see we have it all together.

Our past bands, such as Ghost Cabinet, Eringate and Sister Amadeus used to really rock the scene. But since graduating, our current artists and bands, like Sam Graham and Sylvia Lam, Connor Gains Band and Morwood have been getting things done.

Also to keep in mind, at G.C.I., we have our choirs, a jazz band and a concert band. These groups of individuals never fail to give a great performance; I am positive they make our music department proud.

With a whole bunch of greatness coming from Galt Collegiate, one can only hope to see and hear more. We have a Coffee House on the way, a Music Night approaching and a Holiday Assembly right around the corner. This year, G.C.I. is starting the holiday vacation with a bang!

There was nothing when I went to GCI in the early 70′s. We just hung around Dando Ave. and got into trouble. Mind you, the older generation was still leary of the 60′s, we didn’t have teachers like Wendy Higgens. It’s good to see that you are being given a creative outlet.
