DJ Tina Interviews Prozak Online

by on Dec.07, 2008, under Local Talent

HMTV DJ Tina: How did the recording sessions go for your new album?

Prozak: Alotta long hours. A lot of locations! A lot of special guests as well. This is by far my greatest work to date, and it did not come easy. I recorded at Chapman Recording’s in Kansas City MO, The Disc Ltd. in East Pointe MI, Mike E. Clark’s Fun House studio in Sterling Heights MI, and a few other places as well.

HMTV DJ Tina: Are there any tours in the works for 2008 to promote The Hitchcock of Hip Hop?

Prozak: Hell yes!! I know I will be touring with my entire record label in September. That will be a large U.S tour, and I have been in talks with ILL BILL about touring Europe as well. In November, I plan on doing my own solo tour, around 10 or 15 dates. Between these tours, and random spot dates, it will be a crazy fucking year for sure.

HMTV DJ Tina: What are some of the highlights of The Hitchcock of Hip Hop can the fans expect?

Prozak: I plan on putting together a dope fucking light show, the HD projector displaying insanity and political unrest behind me. Horrorific and graphic reality will fill the screen, seizure causing light and strobes will fuck with your buzz, and me flowing the hardest shit I have ever written will haunt ya for weeks! I plan on doing the most I can for these tours and dates, Its all about the fans, the supporters of my music.

HMTV DJ Tina: Any inspirations, messages or challenges in producing your current CD?

Prozak: The new album is full of messages. Full of sarcastic attacks on the bullshit structures that keep us imprisoned in a socially hypocritical downward spiral. Messages of human right… and responsibility to take control of ones life, and freedom. Messages of truth, to look beyond the filtered and tainted propaganda from the forces of old & new.

HMTV DJ Tina: What music videos will be featured with the free bonus DVD Documentary?

Prozak: Good Enough, Trapped, Last Breath. Three new videos are being shot and released this summer/fall, but wont be pressed to DVD till the next record.

HMTV DJ Tina: How will your new debut album differ from your previous releases (Self Inflicted & Earlier work?)

Prozak: This record differs in many ways. This album is a much more mature version of myself. Mature from a technique, and skill standpoint. It also differs in production style, I have many producers involved with TALES FROM THE SICK. Of course I still have a few rock rap trax with political tone, but I also went back to my roots of hardcore rap/hiphop as well. I think hands down this record is the best of everything I am known for bringing to the table.

HMTV DJ Tina: This brings me to my next question why is Prozak considered one of the strongest driving forces in the Hardcore scene?

Prozak: Relentless. I have been a driving relentless force from day one. From artist Security guard, to national recording artist. From consigning cd’s, to Fontana(Universal) distribution. Its all about work, hustle, talent, love for the art, for the game. Passion, drive, its gotta be in your heart, your soul, and in your blood. I have lived every day of my life for the last decade grinding towards this release, and I am already plotting the next! Besides my own career, I also do directing, and writing for other peoples projects, music videos, commercials, DVD’s. I love this fucking business… its Coke to me.

HMTV DJ Tina: What were some of the challenges you dealt with in the spring of 2005, when the media attacked him because of the school shooting in Red Lake?

Prozak: I dealt with a lot of ignorance. The challenge to me, was trying to open the eyes of a stale and lethargic world of ad

ults who are hypnotized by the media. They, (the middle aged) are looking for reasons to blame these incidents on music, and other forms of entertainment. What happened to people being responsible for things they do?? I address this issue hard on my new record. The song is called SCAPEGOAT. I feel I sum it up well on there.

HMTV DJ Tina: Did this have and impact on CD sales?

Prozak: Of course the sales spiked because people wanted to hear what kind of music could cause a person to kill multiple people, and then kill themselves. That was actually the mentality of the blind buyers.

HMTV DJ Tina: Prozak, did you finally win the case in standing up against claims of your music, how did things work out for you when all these issues were put to rest?

Prozak: No criminal charges were actually perused, and I battled the media for a while, proving over, and over again how patheticit was for them to blame ANY art form, for a tragedy like this.

HMTV DJ Tina: Curious what other Artist was Prozak defending at this time?

Prozak: Any and All artists in the world. We have the freedom of speech, and the creative freedom of expression. Film, music, photography, what the fuck ever…. art does not KILL PEOPLE.

HMTV DJ Tina: What do you express in your lyrical content?

Prozak: I express rage, fear, horror, regret, & truth. I express the thoughts many people think and feel everyday, but are to afraid, or don’t bother communicate to others. I express the impending doom of a society based upon consumerism and greed. I express everything I think or feel.

HMTV DJ Tina: What is Prozaks criteria for a well mixed or engineered song?

Prozak: My criteria is fucking with the best producers! Robert Rebeck, Mike E. Clark, Michael Seven Summers, The Legendary

Traxter, ya cannot go wrong there! Of course, hitting up the best studio’s… and real putting the TIME in to tweak each and every song.

HMTV DJ Tina: What do you consider your most significant accomplishments in your music career?

Prozak: Fighting my way through the underground, to national status, becoming a accomplished director, and writer in the film/video world, being a successful promoter and activist, there are many. The biggest though…. its been a decade, and I am still doing what I love to do, and doing it better than fucking ever.

HMTV DJ Tina: What do you look for in a record label?

Prozak: Stability, drive, focus, results. These are a must. A label must have so many components in place, and thousands of details must all align properly for it to function…. and function right. Its a rare… but beautiful thing. Its also called ” STRANGE MUSIC INC.”, google that bitch!

HMTV DJ Tina: What is your opinion of the music industry today and what would you like to see change?

Prozak: The industry is fucked. The majors are in a panic, downloading is like full blown aids to the bizz. Top 40 is having a hard time going platinum and gold, and i think the whole thing is fucking funny. It doesn’t stop me, or my label mates. There is an entire secret society of us out here killing it, running shit, giving the fans what they want! We are all touring, we are all cranking out releases, we are all doing the god damn thing!

HMTV DJ Tina: Any last words?

Prozak: Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this. Time is the one thing you cannot get back, I hope I enlightened you.

HMTV DJ Tina: Thank you Prozak for allowing our eZine to interview your band.

Prozak: Naw. thank you for the interview, and thank you for existing to help the scene, my scene, your scene, there scene…= OUR SCENE.
